Safety & Security Policy
Travelers are entitled to a safe and secure vacation experience at any Happy Place Vacation Rental home. That’s why, in addition to vetting and verifying each Happy Place Vacation Rental home, we require that every Happy Place Vacation Rental home meet the following standards.
Happy Place Vacation Rental requires all homes to include the following safety amenities:
- Smoke detectors
- Carbon monoxide detectors
- Fire extinguishers
- First aid kits
Happy Place Vacation Rental owners are responsible for installing and maintaining all safety amenities. Owners are also required to meet all local, state, or federal safety standards applicable to their property.
In addition to the requirements above, Happy Place Vacation Rental recommends that owners:
- Inform Happy Place Vacation Rental and travelers of the whereabouts of required safety equipment and any applicable recommended equipment
- Have heating and cooling systems inspected and serviced annually
- Have all appliances, including chimneys and vents, inspected, and serviced annually

Any device that captures or transmits audio, video, or still images is considered a surveillance device. This includes security cameras, Wi-Fi cameras, nanny cameras, web cameras in computer monitors, baby monitors, and smartphones used to record video or audio.
Here are our requirements when it comes to surveillance equipment in and around Happy Place Vacation Rental homes:
Owners must disclose all surveillance equipment in or around the property to Happy Place Vacation Rental so that Happy Place Vacation Rental can include information around any permitted devices in the property listing
Surveillance devices may only be utilized on the outside of a home for security purposes or for noise monitoring, and for no other purpose
Cameras and listening devices are not permitted in the interior of a property for any purpose (whether disclosed)
Owners may not use devices of any kind to surveil guests inside of a home
Noise or occupancy monitoring devices installed in the interior of a home may only measure decibel levels or number of occupants (like all devices, they must be disclosed to the traveler in the listing)
Guests may not use surveillance devices to monitor a host, or any other person present in the listing without the consent of that person
Violations of this Policy
Owner violations of this policy may lead to suspension or termination of the involved property listing. Happy Place Vacation Rental will be entitled to collect its management fees and issue full refunds to travelers at the owner’s expense.
Traveler violations may lead to termination of a stay without refund and a future ban from traveling with Happy Place Vacation Rental.
Consequences may vary based on the severity and frequency of violations. In certain cases, Happy Place Vacation Rental may notify its partners or law enforcement of behavior that potentially threatens any person’s safety or violates applicable law.
What should I do if I encounter an issue during my trip?
We always want to offer you an unforgettable stay, and we’re truly sorry that you had an issue on your vacation. Here’s the fastest way to get help.
Step 1: Call the Guest Contact found in your check-in instructions and report the issue within 24 hours. We know many travelers prefer email and text, but we’ve found that reaching out by phone is the quickest way to a resolution, so we recommend that method of contact first.
Step 2: Document the issue you are experiencing by making notes, taking photos, and saving any relevant receipts.
Step 3: Tell the Guest Contact exactly what happened, what documentation you have, and what you need done immediately to resolve the issue. From there, the two of you can work together to negotiate anyfurther amends that need to be made.
